Canvas hammock in the garden

Canvas hammock

A hammock made from heavy cotton canvas, sewn on a regular home sewing machine. I wove the rope ends from an old washing line on a wooden frame I knocked together for the job.

For now there are only photos. If enough of you ask, I will turn it into a step-by-step guide.

Why I made it

I wanted to try making a whole hammock myself, from the canvas to the rope ends, and to find out whether a home sewing machine could stitch through several layers of heavy cotton canvas.

What I learned

I tried my hand at weaving the rope ends. Step by step I worked out the whole making process, then sewed and assembled the hammock by it. It still works today, and every summer we relax in it in the garden under the trees.
