Garden kneeling pad

A garden kneeling pad: a cover of waterproof polyester fabric holding a firm board of recycled foam, slipped in through a zip. One side has two pockets for small tools such as scissors, pliers, a trowel or string.

Why I made it

At our cottage we knelt by the vegetable beds on shabby offcuts of foam for years. I wanted to replace them with something more comfortable and nicer to look at. The pad stays comfortable even for long stretches, keeps out the damp and cold from the ground, and it's still in regular use at the cottage.

What I learned

I tried sewing rounded corners in a stiff fabric and a zip whose pull tucks into a little pocket when it's closed.
